Spring Cleaning Checklist

7 Day Spring Cleaning Checklist – Deep Clean In One Week

Spring cleaning your entire home in a day or a weekend is quite the challenge. This top to bottom cleaning on such limited time is certain to cause unnecessary stress. Additionally, rushing doesn’t allow you to thoroughly clean all areas of your home. To avoid these mistakes, follow along with our 7 day spring cleaning checklist to efficiently and effectively deep clean your home.

Day 1: Get Organized

We’re all guilty of it, storing away clutter and unnecessary items which you just aren’t ready to let go of yet. This can cause a mess in your home. Take day 1 to go through drawers and cabinets and decide what is really important. There’s no need to rush, you can chip away at each room as you go about your day. Make a pile for donation, storage, and trash to help make your decisions easier. It’s crucial to clear out this clutter before beginning your deep cleaning. Please note, your home will likely be a little messier today, and you don’t need to worry about cleaning as you go along. Once you sort through your piles, the cleanup will almost handle itself.

Day 2: The Bedrooms

Since we cleared out all of the clutter, we’re ready to take on each of the bedrooms! Throw all of the bedding and blankets in the wash and get started. If you still have more items than you know what to do with, research storage organizers for closets or under the beds. These can organize your items and simultaneously keep leftover clutter out of sight. Be sure to dust all of the decor, furniture, light fixtures, and baseboards. This will help cut down on the allergens your family is breathing in. Finish it all off by giving a good sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming to your bedroom floors.

Day 3: Bathrooms

While you should regularly clean your bathrooms throughout the year, now is the time for a deep cleaning. Begin by dusting the walls, air vents, light fixtures, and any decor. Now it’s time to scrub your sinks, countertops, mirrors, the entire toilet, showers, tubs, and faucets. Don’t cut any corners. You should also go through your cabinets and get rid of any old medicine and nearly empty bottles. As you finish up, take out the bathroom trash and sweep and mop the bathroom floors.

Day 4: The Kitchen

Are you getting tired yet? After today we’re over half way through! The kitchen is often the most daunting place to clean for many of us. Now is the time to get your hands dirty and give your kitchen the cleaning it deserves. Go through these points to break down your kitchen cleaning step by step:

  • Clean and put away dishes
  • Empty out your cabinets and pantry and toss out any expired foods
  • Wipe down the inside of your cabinets while empty
  • Reorganize your cabinets
  • Scrub down your stovetop and countertops
  • Clean the inside of your microwave
  • Clean the inside of your oven
  • Wipe down and disinfect your backsplash
  • Dust off the top of cabinets and light fixtures
  • Clean dog bowls
  • Wash rugs and hand towels
  • Sweep and mop the floor

Day 5: What’s Left Inside

Today is the day to take a breath and simply finish off whatever spaces are left in your home. Some examples may include your living room, mudroom, office, or any other rooms you haven’t cleaned yet. With these rooms, begin by dusting all surfaces. Disinfect remotes, desks, TVs, laptops, lamps, door handles, and other commonly used items or areas. Give the floors a good vacuuming and consider shampooing carpets that really need a deep cleaning.

Day 6: Exterior

You can’t forget about the outside of your house! This is the first impression visitors have. Spend as much time sprucing up the exterior of your home as you did the interior. Begin by walking around your property and making a list of what needs to be done. Keep an eye out for fallen branches, dead plants, broken hardiboard, or any holes where critters could be getting inside your home. Clear away any fallen limbs and leaves or dead plants so you have a clean yard. Plant some new flowers to really add life to your home! Replace any broken parts to the exterior of your home. While you’re at it, take a peak in your garage and give it a good sweep. The small touches make a huge difference.
